A day late because everyone decided to write about Morgan Ensberg all at once and there were NO IDEAS LEFT.
Okay, not really, but the timing of it amused me.
Anyway. Both
owllover711 and
__kara__ requested a Morgan Ensberg drabble. Which I have finally written. Kara, I don't know you real well, so I hope slash is your cuppa tea.
DISCLAIMER: So. Fake. I can tell it's fake, because I made it all up. It is in fact so fake that it takes place in the same universe as my fic "Not That There's . . .", which is also fake.
Sometimes Morgan wants to tell Andy that he's not as subtle as he thinks he is.
Discreet, sure. Morgan's pretty sure that most of the team doesn't see the way Andy can be around Roger, because if they did - well, everyone would know.
But it's not possible to make sure no one is looking every time before you give that longing glance or barely-there touch. And Morgan looks at Andy a lot.
His thought process doesn't carry him further than that, though, and it's not until Ausmus's arm slides around his waist that he realizes someone saw him looking, too.

**laughs** Curse you! A friend and I were just having a discussion yesterday about reader-response theory and we were both agreed that people who think that an author's intent doesn't matter, that it's unrelated to what the author's words are going to invoke in any given person, we were both agreed that those people are whacked. And then here you come with your, yeah, I was just trying to keep it to 100 words. :-P Whatever works, I suppose ^_^

I just got up, so I have no idea how much sense this makes, but I wanted to reply right off.

And somehow this turned into a whole thing on RRT. I'll shut up now.

Definitely the author's intent has something to do with it. Sometimes people see that and sometimes they don't, though. I mean, check out the flap over Harry Potter; if someone picks up the books looking for Satanism, then that's what they're going to see regardless of what JK Rowling intended to get across. That's kind of an extreme example, but yeah - reading is a collaboration between the reader and the author, but not all readers let the author get too involved in how they read.
Not that that has anything to do with what I said this morning, and certainly people who read my stuff are more likely to share my frame of mind, because that's what fanfiction is for. I did find your remarks interesting, though, and didn't feel criticized at all. Sorry if I sounded terse; that'll teach me to try and say words when I've been awake for ten minutes. ;)
