A day late because everyone decided to write about Morgan Ensberg all at once and there were NO IDEAS LEFT.

Okay, not really, but the timing of it amused me.

Anyway. Both [livejournal.com profile] owllover711 and [livejournal.com profile] __kara__ requested a Morgan Ensberg drabble. Which I have finally written. Kara, I don't know you real well, so I hope slash is your cuppa tea.

DISCLAIMER: So. Fake. I can tell it's fake, because I made it all up. It is in fact so fake that it takes place in the same universe as my fic "Not That There's . . .", which is also fake.

Sometimes Morgan wants to tell Andy that he's not as subtle as he thinks he is.

Discreet, sure. Morgan's pretty sure that most of the team doesn't see the way Andy can be around Roger, because if they did - well, everyone would know.

But it's not possible to make sure no one is looking every time before you give that longing glance or barely-there touch. And Morgan looks at Andy a lot.

His thought process doesn't carry him further than that, though, and it's not until Ausmus's arm slides around his waist that he realizes someone saw him looking, too.

Brad Ausmus gets some action! Sweet! And dude, everyone wants Andy Pettitte, naturally.

I like this; the not realizing how much he's watching, maybe, and then being watched in turn, and the pining, and then the realization that maybe looking at one thing so much has kept him from seeing another. And in so few words! You rock.

Excellent, you totally took that a step further than I did. =D I love that.

By the way, I had an interesting fake!revelation about Bondo this morning as a result of the convo last night. I'll have to tell you about it when you wander onto AIM tonight. /tease

OMG YOU ARE KILLING ME WITH THESE WONDERFUL DRABBLES. MORGAN WITH THE SEKRIT KRUSH ON ANDY AND THEN SMOOTH BRAD BEING ALL NOTICING AND STEPPING IN AND IT'S ALL TOO MUCH *EXPLODES*

Man, I know I'm good when I get all caps. ;)

I'm glad you're enjoying the drabbles. They're fun to write.

What they said ^_^ It's like a Babushka fic, or something. There's always more than what you think you're seeing. Love!

*grins* Thanks. I also like how you guys are finding more in this than I did; I was a bit more preoccupied with word count. I had to cut and tweak a lot to get this down to a hundred.

**laughs** Curse you! A friend and I were just having a discussion yesterday about reader-response theory and we were both agreed that people who think that an author's intent doesn't matter, that it's unrelated to what the author's words are going to invoke in any given person, we were both agreed that those people are whacked. And then here you come with your, yeah, I was just trying to keep it to 100 words. :-P Whatever works, I suppose ^_^

Huh. I don't really see it like that. I don't think any two people are going to get exactly the same thing out of a piece of writing, simply because they are not the same person. When I get feedback, I often get people mentioning angles or layers I never thought of, and I love that. I really like seeing what other people saw, and sometimes it's something so obvious that my only explanation for having missed it is the fact that I was involved in the writing process.

I just got up, so I have no idea how much sense this makes, but I wanted to reply right off.

From: [identity profile] ayrdaomei.livejournal.com

I was ribbing; I hope you didn't think I honestly meant to suggest that there was anything lacking in you as a writer just because feedback gives you takes on things you don't pick up consciously when you're so close to the matter. Everyone brings their own perspectives and connotations when they sit down to the table, so doubtless you're gonna have what you write interpreted in different ways, and I don't mean to come across sounding like I think any good writer will entirely dictate the audience's reaction. It's more like I believe that the author's intent has to factor in to what the author's words invoke in some way, because the author's intent is going to influence the words they put on the page.

And somehow this turned into a whole thing on RRT. I'll shut up now.

Oh, no, not at all! I didn't interpret that as a commentary of my writing abilities; if anything, I saw it more as a remark on poor reading skills. =)

Definitely the author's intent has something to do with it. Sometimes people see that and sometimes they don't, though. I mean, check out the flap over Harry Potter; if someone picks up the books looking for Satanism, then that's what they're going to see regardless of what JK Rowling intended to get across. That's kind of an extreme example, but yeah - reading is a collaboration between the reader and the author, but not all readers let the author get too involved in how they read.

Not that that has anything to do with what I said this morning, and certainly people who read my stuff are more likely to share my frame of mind, because that's what fanfiction is for. I did find your remarks interesting, though, and didn't feel criticized at all. Sorry if I sounded terse; that'll teach me to try and say words when I've been awake for ten minutes. ;)

I love it. I really really do. There are so many implications in it..so great. This would make a really good longer story, too. The fact that its a drabble deal kills me. My heart aches for more.

I don't think I'll expand it, but I'm glad you liked it. It's amazing how much can fit into a hundred words sometimes. =D

um, hi?

Hi...so yeah random props 'cause you like the astros and you wrote Ensberg slash and I can't ignore astrosslash. Makes me happy even though I'm sad about him being out for so long.

Re: um, hi?

Hi! *waves*'

I adore Morgan. I can't watch the Astros due to complicated superstitions that pretty much boil down to them sucking when I watch and winning when I don't, But I've immensely enjoyed watching from afar as Morgan has a killer year. I hope he comes back soon, we need him.

I did read your mprov bits, and I suck at feedback and I'm sorry, but I quite liked them. I especially liked the Ensberg/Everett, of course. Exploring in the dark - a good idea nicely executed. =D

Thanks for stopping by. I friended you, if you don't mind. =)

Re: um, hi?

Ha, sorry to hear about all those complications...but yeah Mo's had a great year (especially compared to last year) and he needs to be back yesterday.

'Tis okay about the feedback, and thanks!

Friended you back. :)

Re: um, hi?

Excellent! New friends are good, and honestly with the living in Maine and all I don't exactly have fellow Astros fans falling into my lap. Glad to meet another one. =D

Re: um, hi?

Yeah, I would figure so! Sad thing is, I live just outside of Houston and it's hard for me to find Astros fans, too. I guess we're fickle here. Or maybe I just have high standards...
