Excellent. Boomer has clearly decided that giving up a bazillion runs in the first five minutes of the game is not the way to go. This is good to see, especially where my blood pressure is concerned.

Next step: Eliminating that whole "one painful inning lumped in with a bunch of good/great ones" thing. Seriously. He's a good pitcher, he's shown us what he can do, he just needs to do it consistently.

Wow. Well, Keith Foulke is never boring. And hey, maybe he did load the bases but then he totally failed to give up a grand slam, and considering how many homers he's given up this season, I can only find that encouraging.

The rest of the game: YAY. Going from being down 4-1 to winning 7-4 is awesome. And, hey, [livejournal.com profile] maggiesox, didja notice that they started hitting right after we started bitching about it?

Non-play highlight: Orlando Cabrera. I have been waiting for his first at-bat at Fenway since he left, and it was exactly what I'd hoped for. A long, sustained, joyful standing O. Oh, Cabbie. We're getting used to Rents, and we kinda like him, and we'll love him soon enough, but we still miss you.

Tigers won their game, too, 5-3. That would be a game against the Orioles, who they swept last week, and isn't this interesting? Also, two of those runs came courtesy of Pudge, who got a homer and then an RBI, and he's been having a hard time offensively, so this is exciting.

The Astros, on the other hand, are bound and determined to get shut out for the tenth time this season. Are they going for some kind of record? They sure win at wasting awesome starts; Pettitte allowed one lousy run, but can they take advantage? No. Bah.

Speaking of which, they are playing the Cardinals, who are going on to play the Sox next. So I get to spend another six days looking at the same damn opposing team.

Also, the Yankees lost their sixth in a row to the Twins, 6-3. After they were ahead for a while, too. And after the Twins lost like half the team to injuries in their last game. Way to go, guys. =D This drops the Yankees back down to an even .500.

And yes, the Astros did get themselves shut out. For heaven's sake. I mean, okay, worst team in the division versus the best - it's like pitting the Devil Rays against the Orioles. It's just frustrating to see a) a lovely start go to waste, and b) the second time in a row they have not managed a three-game winning streak.

And tomorrow I am going upstairs and having a word with someone about the past few nights of opera at insanely late hours. If the person below you can hear it, turn it the hell down. Heh, better opera than rap or something, though.
