catslash: (Nicola - ew gross)

Oh look, I went a week and a half without posting again. I don't have long, so this post will be short, but.

Upside of taking summer classes: I can make up for the credits the insomnia totally screwed me over on, seriously, half the reason I haven't posted is because I don't even wanna talk about it.

Downside of taking summer courses: I still have to walk the mile to campus, even when it is the first legitimately hot and gross day of the year. And this will continue for the rest of this month and part of June, and then begin anew toward the end of July and into August, AKA the hottest part of the year.

At least today the room I'm in has air conditioning, because it's full of movie-watching equipment. (Class subject? The films of Stanley Kubrick. Fuck yeah, you guys, I'm getting credit to watch movies and talk about them.)

We didn't watch that in its entirety, but we did watch the telephone call scene. Hilarious.

KUBRICK!!!! (Although I'm not sure I could get through A Clockwork Orange.) Are you going to be watching the 62 version of Lolita? And if you get to Barry Lyndon, I'd love to hear your thoughts, since I saw it recently on the Big Screen.

We skipped Lolita other than a couple of scenes in the overview in the first class, and watched A Clockwork Orange yesterday, which wasn't as traumatizing as I thought it would be. I might even watch it again on my own sometime. I found it more accessible than 2001, at least - good at following endless dialogue-free footage where not all that much actually happens, I am not.

We're watching Barry Lyndon tomorrow! I'm excited. From what I've heard, it sounds like it'll be really interesting.

Barry Lyndon is visually stunning, and I think it got a really bad rap at the time. Marissa Berenson is gorgeous and look out for those wigs. Ryan Oneal's is the weakest link, but by the end of the movie, I think he grows into the role. PLEASE do a post sharing your thoughts after you see it.
