An awesome thing happened today.

I was having breakfast at Dunkin Donuts (it's the only convenient place near my work unless I want to break my four-years-and-counting moratorium on McDonald's, that's why), and there were two parents and their small child at one of the tables. The small child seriously did not want to be there, and was making this clear with lots of piercing shrieking.

And GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.

When attempting to quiet their child did not work, the father took him outside while the mother bolted down the rest of her food. And they left.

IT WAS LIKE A MIRACLE.

I honestly expected to be forced to endure the kid's screaming while his parents completely ignored him, so I was thrilled when they actually paid attention to their child and had consideration for the people around them. I leaned over and thanked the mother rather profusely. It was a good start to the day.

(Possibly the best part was how the very first tactic they tried was the standard, "We will leave if you don't be quiet" - and then cut to a few minutes later, with the father wheeling the stroller out the door and the kid giggling. Like, "Yeah, that was the entire point, thanks.")

It's a miracle! I was in a restaurant once where the kid was not only shrieking non stop but running around a mile a minute and the mom was doing nothing. they had already finished eating and paid for it and were just hanging out in there for a long time afterwards. I finally asked them to leave.
