Doctor Who.

Message received, Russell T Davies, and a hearty FUCK YOU right back atcha.

That was disgusting.

It's just as well that the next series isn't till 2010. Maybe by then I'll give a shit about what happens next on this show. And I can only say that much because it'll be Moffat, not Davies. Otherwise, forget it.

This is really not so much my year for shows I love, is it?

So you have to wait two years until the show picks back up? That's kind of . . . weird.

Yeah, British TV is its own animal. There are going to be a few specials next year, but no series until 2010.

Not that I care right now.

Shall I duck and cover once the rest of my flist gets ahold of this episode of Doctor Who?

That depends. Some people will be extremely happy with it. I am not. I wish to light it on fire.

Yes. I think in the US airing schedule, the Crossover O Doom should air next week.

I almost want to watch the ep just to see what the hell happened, but I'd probably so lost it wouldn't be worth it >.>

The entire last ten minutes. I would really prefer not to talk about it. I'm sure you can find a summary. Let's just say that I should have followed my instants and turned it off as soon as everyone piled into the TARDIS.

*finds summary*

*reads it*

Ohhhh. Even knowing only a tiny bit about the show, I think I see what you're talking about.

;_;

Donna was my favorite. And Russell T Davies can never let his female characters be awesome. He always has to punish them for their awesomeness somehow.

Um. Yeah. RTD, your internal consistency makes J.K. Rowling look good. I am pretending that there was no end to this episode, because otherwise my brain would EXPLODE.

On the plus side, I could totally get behind Torchwood!Mickey. I adore Mickey. He would do well in their crazy organization, and he'd add a little much-needed levity.

Assuming he could actually get treated decently instead of shat all over, I'm all for it. I am discussing with a friend how he and Ianto should hook up, because they could both stand to be with someone who ISN'T hopelessly in love with the Doctor.

I'm going to be angry over this episode for quite some time.

From: [identity profile] gileonnen.livejournal.com

Absolutely. Mickey/Ianto could be laughter and watching cartoons and sniping at Jack behind his back. I am all for it.

Also, the activist in me thinks that two long-term black characters in Torchwood would be cool.

It would be cool. Long-term minority characters are always cool. Well, when the writers treat them respectfully, anyway. I think Mickey would have more chance of respectful treatment on TW than he got on DW.

I agree. RTD is not very good with his minority characters or his women or anyone who might get ticked off--even with his so-called gay agenda, he is only hit-or-miss with my sort of people. So I'm seriously hoping that he realizes he has a VERY BAD PATTERN developing here, and he fixes it before I have to go dig out the Smiting Stick.

It's entirely too late for the women (seriously, name one woman on this show who was strong and smart and capable and didn't end up getting punished for it; I can only think of Sally Sparrow, who lucked out by being Moffat's creation, and even she had to watch Billy die and never know what could have been between them), but the minorities might still have a chance. If only because there have been so few of them to mistreat that RTD hasn't really gotten entrenched in the pattern yet. *sigh*

... I actually can't think of any character who was strong and smart and capable and didn't get punished for it. Oh, a few of them got rewarded, too, but they all got punished. Message from RTD, articulated loud and clear in 'Voyage of the Damned': be a sleaze and survive!

Point. Though I was amused by that aspect of VotD because the traditional method of telling that story would be to have the jerk be the token death and everyone else survive, and I'm a sucker for inversion of tropes.
