A drabble-and-a-half. Maybe I should ease up a little on the Roseanne reruns.

The top news story that evening had something to do with gay rights. Dan, who had years ago perfected the art of watching the news without allowing himself to become informed, wasn't really paying attention until David said:

"What do you think of that kind of stuff, Mr Conner?"

Dan glanced at David, who was staring intently at the television.

"Live and let live, David. I have better things to worry about."

"I think it's pathetic." David didn’t look at Dan as he talked. "I mean, it's so obvious that these guys just can't get women. I mean, you and I both know that guys'll do anything when they can't get a girl."

"Fact?"

"Fact."

"Uh-huh." Dan took a swig from his beer can and paused just long enough to let David think he'd gotten away with something before asking, "And exactly what did you do before Darlene?"

". . . that's not the point here."

"Right."

You're addicted to Roseanne, too? Damn Oxygen and their marathons. >_<

All the same, the ficlet was very realistic. It read like a scene from the show, and I enjoyed it muchly. ^__^

Ha! I know. I turned that marathon on because, since Roseanne was preempting my usual Monday morning Xena, there was nothing else on, and I was hooked halfway through the first episode I watched. Now I stay up just to watch the episodes on Nick at Nite. I still don't know why I never noticed how good a show it was when it aired every night with all the other syndicated network sitcoms.

And thank you. I was going for just that and (not to toot my own horn or anything) thought I'd gotten it pretty well. Glad someone else thinks so too. =)

I agree. Your drabble felt very much like a real Dan/David interaction. Amusing stuff.

Roseanne was a truly great show, at least for the first several seasons, until it devolved into one insane and power-hungry woman's self-indulgent freakshow. This seemed to happen around the time the original "Becky" left, although there were still a few good episodes each season afterward. Except for the last season, which was a complete and total trainwreck from start to finish. I'm just warning you so your mind won't be blown if you see one of the later episodes and wonder what the hell you're watching.

Oh, I know all about that. The suckitude of that last season is legendary, as is the brain-twisting attempt to salvage the mess - Roseanne was making the whole thing up! Uh, what?

Oh, and, thanks. I'm waiting impatiently for the reruns to get to the later seasons because, while they were airing week before last on the Nick at Nite marathons, I got hooked on the story arcs. I'm a sucker for story arcs. That's one thing I like about Oxygen, though - it airs its syndicated shows in order and doesn't bounce around from week to week. I like that a lot. Many stations seem to have a hard time with that.

Heh. I hope you check for replies to your comments, 'cos that's a lot of typing for the possibility of never getting read.

Not to worry, your reply has been read by me. ;)
