First of all, congratulations to Anji. She knows why. *sly grin*

Yes, I found shoes yesterday, not long after the post. (By the way? Typing at that stand was difficult. Not much manuevering room.) Because I'm sure you were all so concerned. I found awesome well-worth-two-hours-in-hell-because-I-may-be-a-girl-but-I-still-hate-shoe-shopping shoes. Lovely black clunky leather boots that cost rather more than should be spent on shoes because I bought them in some little European shoe outlet and just beg to be tromped around in and scuffed up a bit. Have been walking around in them, breaking in both the boots and my heels. (Ouch.) While I was at the mall yesterday, I also took a cue from [livejournal.com profile] amatia and turned in some used CDs and DVDs at fye for store credit - thirty-two bucks. Used some of it to buy Holes and shall save the rest for that extra bit of help during Christmas shopping season. Not that twelve bucks'll get you much at fye, which stands for For Your (over-priced) Entertainment.

I haven't been to the library, and hence able to post, for almost a week for a very simple reason - I got my Amazon shipment Thursday and have spent the last few days way overdoing it on the Angel marathons. Twelve episodes on Saturday, people. You can bet I've had interesting dreams. I have two seasons to get through, after all, preferably before the fifth season premiere on Wednesday. It's been nice to revisit the first season, which I remember as the year that I actually liked Angel better than Buffy, and see the second season, which I missed most of.

Season one thoughts:

* Now I remember why I liked Doyle so much. This is depressing on a couple different levels. Also, I don't know how long the DVDs have been out, but the biographies of the actors at least were written before Glenn Quinn's death.

* On a lighter note - I'd forgotten all about how, when the writers couldn't come up with a real plot or needed to pad the episode, they'd just torture somebody. You know you watch weird TV when this memory is accompanied by a reminiscent smile and sense of nostalgia.

* I didn't think the dark Wesley of today had much of a connection with the Wesley of Backintheday, but now I can see the potential for darkness in even the most blatant of Comic Relief!Wesley moments. I just wish season three hadn't screwed up every single established character's personality so badly, because then Wesley's dramatic changes in that year would have made a lot more sense and I would understand better how he got from there to here.

* I have a sinking, nauseating suspicion of what's going to happen with the Shanshu prophecy, which I shall The Shanshu prophecy, to refresh, is a prophecy stating that a "vampire with a soul" shall become human - or, according to Wesley's initial translation, die - after fighting an army of darkness (and I don't mean Bruce Campbell in alarming makeup) and various scary things and such. Obviously at the time they assumed it applied to Angel, because he was the only vampire with a soul around.

Remember who else has a soul now? And remember who's joining the Angel cast this year? Yeah. If they twist the Shanshu around to make it about Spike, I'm just gonna go ahead and throw up without bothering to try and make it to the bathroom in time. Man, I knew there was a reason why returning Spike's soul was a bad, bad idea. (And to think it worked out so well when we did it in RP a few years ago. Sigh.)

Season two observations:

So many things I missed out on! It's lovely to learn the following -

* Why so many people seemed to like Gunn when I picked the show back up in the third season. By the time I'd gotten to know him, he had already begun the descent into the randomly characterized automaton that he became that year, so I just didn't get it and never really have.

* Exactly what went on with Darla, Drusilla, and Angel's mental instability and the roots of his alienation from the others.

* Who this Lindsey fellow is that the fans still talk about two years later. I liiiiike him.

* How Lilah and Lorne got their respective starts on the show.

I'm halfway through the second season now, and eager to watch the rest. Fun fact: when I first heard that they were creating a spinoff starring Angel, I confidently and loudly predicted that it couldn't last a dozen episodes. How could I have guessed that Angel, when separated from Buffy, would prove to have a personality, and that David Boreanaz, when surrounded with strong supporting players, would be able to carry a show? Going into five seasons, kids. As Strega said in the TWoP Angel FAQ, somebody must have lost a bet.

Have turned in job applications at several places, and am virtually guaranteed two jobs. One as a cashier at a grocery store where I've worked before, and one as a peon lackey bitch worker at a video store. The video store looks to be minimal hours and an experience-only type job, so I could probably swing both of them. Go me. =)

Oh yeah. I don't know if you saw him or not, but he's in the very first episode and didn't even have a name then. And his second appearance was supposed to go to another character (the idealistic young W&H lawyer Angel ran into in some episode), but the actor was busy. So we got Lindsey. And the fans rejoiced, because it was gooooood. *g*

Lindsey is god...

The actor's name is Christian Kane. He's just...wow. I read what the writers had described for Lindsey and he fits. CK's multitalented, too (he's in a country band called Kane which has this awesome song called "America High" which is mindblowingly good). In fact, he wants to get back on Angel, and a lot of fans are hoping that by bringing W&H back into the picture, they may do that. If you want to see him in something non-Angel relted, there's Seconhand Lions (out now) or a few other videos. My favorite, even though he's in it briefly? The Broken Hearts Club.

Spike. In RPG land. All those years ago. Man, I miss him...

Eh...souling Spike worked because I demanded it. ::evil cackle:: No, seriously though, you're right. When we were RPing, an evil Spike would not have been appropriate, not for the storyline. A chipped Spike, if we'd had the idea, might have been fun, though.
