catslash: (reason to stay)

You know what I enjoyed? The day before yesterday, when the Red Sox and the Tigers were both off, the only game I had to worry about was the Astros, and they got winning out of the way early. So, except for the part where I managed to spill a full gallon of milk behind the register counter at work (I PWN and you know it), it was a very peaceful, stress-free day.

And then yesterday I got up and got tense all over again. You know, I just don't remember last September being this insane. Of course, last September I wasn't keeping track of this race and that race and counting games and crunching numbers and figuring out which teams to hate and which to root for every day. Dunno why. I guess because it was my first full season of baseball and I must not have known enough yet to get anxious. That's okay, though, not like the ALCS didn't freaking make up for it.

Anyway. [livejournal.com profile] maggiesox and I were commiserating last night over how much we hate baseball right now, and it hurts, and fucking forget quitting smoking right now like we'd meant to, that shit can wait for the offseason. She is also following two teams who are in contention, so we feel each other's pain on the double-the-stress factor. Because it's bad enough to get heartburn (just metaphorically, so far at least) over the Red Sox without having the Astros putting sick knots in my stomach. And do you think the Tigers can help out by winning a damn game once in a while? No! Why the fuck would they do that? Of course, that may be for the best, because at this point if they did win on a day when the Sox or the Astros lost, I would resent them for it and wish I could steal their win and give it to one of my teams that actually deserves it.

I hate baseball and it hurts and I wanna cigarette and when did I decide that having three teams was such a brilliant idea anyway? *cries*

Aaaaaanyway. What My Teams Did Yesterday.

Red Sox: They won 6-3, yay. Bronson was shaky at first but then he settled down, and the offense did its thing, and honestly? I don't remember much of this game, on account of attempting to defend myself with two-thirds of a six-pack. Yeah, that's right, I got drunk on four beers. Liiiiightweeeeeight.

Things that happened in relation to the Red Sox: The Yankees won and the Indians won. So the Sox stay a game behind the Yankees in the division and a game and a half behind the Indians in the wild card race. Shit, I knew all along I didn't wanna root for the Indians.

Today: Matty Clement starts, and the game is at four-thirty so I'm going to have to be sneaky or just wait until my manager leaves, because I don't think she approves of my listening to the game at work. I can't imagine why she doesn't like me being distracted and spastic.

Astros: They lost, ugh, 5-4. Wandy had a not fantastic start and the offense almost but not quite had his back.

Things that happened in relation to the Astros: The Cincinnati Reds SUCK AT LIFE and could not hold a FOUR RUN LEAD, WTF, so the Phillies won, bringing them back to just a game behind the Astros in the wild card race. The Braves, on the other hand, continue to attempt to win my heart by coming back from being down 3-0 to score four runs in the eighth and beat out the Marlins, holding them to four games back. I'll continue to let them think they are winning me over if it makes them knock the Marlins too far back to reasonably recover. But once they've finished doing that, they'll see how I really feel.

Today: Roger Clemens will NOT be starting thanks to his left hamstring, so we get Ezequiel Astacio instead. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUGGHHH. Not at Zeke, I mean, kid held his own while Backe was on the DL, it's not like they're sticking Wilfredo Ledezma in there, but losing Roger Clemens is SO NOT WHAT WE NEED RIGHT NOW.

And whooooa, Toronto just scored four runs off Jaret Wright in the first. GO TORONTO WOOOOOO.

At least two of your teams are still playing for something...:-P Christ, Jay Gibbons apparently said the Orioles are counting down the HOURS till season's end. *bangs head against wall* The Cubs...we will pass over in silence. *bangs head more*

However, I suppose being on that knife's edge is just as bad, and more crushing if they end up letting you down. I just wish I remembered what that's like!

If you need support after the season's over to quit, I will do what I can for you...:-)

LOL, I drink so infrequently I feel tipsy from one glass of wine! How far I've fallen from my college days...*sigh* Man, now I'm remembering our awesome house parties. I miss those times.

YES GO TORONTO! (God, I haven't said that in years.)

Man, what is with Wright being the Human Target? Is this baseball or pinball? Poor guy (yes, I can feel sorry for Yankees too)!

Yes, I know, believe me. The Tigers fan in me is all, "Quit your whining, bitch." Speaking of the Tigers, I feel your Orioles pain, believe me. I understand EXACTLY what it's like to watch a tremendously promising team flush it all away. *hugs* It sucks it sucks it sucks.

Poor guy (yes, I can feel sorry for Yankees too)!

Dude, I feel sorry for Jaret Wright too. What a ridiculous year he's had. DLed for months, and now target practice. It is perfectly okay to feel sorry for a Yankee player as long as the sympathy does not extend to the team. And I want to give poor Jaret some cookies.
