Whoa. That game was fucked. up.
My coworker, Corey, tells me that when Dmitri Young hit that grand slam, I slammed my hands down into my open register so hard he thought the monitor was going to tip over. I do not remember this.
This was a hand slamming of glee, mind you, because Dmitri! Wow!
But here is what was happening in my brain from the fourth inning on:
"*static* *static* *static* I mean, my GOD. *static* 6-0. It was 6-0. *static* *static* Wow doubles. *static* I mean, MY GOD. *static* *static* *static* *static* I MEAN MY GOD. *static* Wait, did Roman Ramon just not suck for multiple innings? *static* Oh, a pinch hitter? Haha, I bet it's Millar . . . THAT WAS A JOKE. *static* WHY ARE THEY PINCH HITTING MILLAR?? *static* *static* MILLAR?! *static* *static* *static* I mean - my god. *static* I mean . . . my god. *static* 12-8. 6-0. 12-8. *static* *static* Jesus, Manny, I need to pee, quit it already. Thank you. *static* i mean my god."
That was insane. That was bizarre. That was, without a doubt, the perfect example of how fucked the Red Sox pitching is. Totally, totally fucked, from beginning to middle to end.
That was also the perfect example of how the Tigers will leap all over bad pitching. They're not always so swell with good pitching, but you show that team some shitty pitching and they are on it like white on rice.
6-0. That game should have been over. But between the Sox pitching and the Tigers' ability to sense weakness and move in for the kill, it had just begun. I was in shock for most of the rest of it. How can the Sox blow such a lead? I mean, sure, they blow leads, it's what they do, and they do it right away, too: had there been anyone around who cared, I would have cracked a joke in my confidence in their ability to do just that. But 6-0? Gone so fast?
What the fuck do we do with that?
I'm ecstatic the Tigers won. I would love for this game to spin them back in a positive direction. That was some gorgeous offense and I do believe Trupe mentioned that they tied the franchise record for doubles with eleven. And Dmitri's grand slam and Brandon Inge back on the ball literally and just hitting and hitting and hitting it was beautiful. And Roman Ramon, you have a few more games like that and I might consider not loathing you for replacing the Farns.
But I am troubled by its coming at the cost of the Red Sox lead over the Yankees shrinking to one and a half. And I have never been as miserable about our pitching as I am right now. That should not have happened. I don't wanna be all Doomsday and Woe over here, but the problems with our pitching have never been as clear as they were tonight. Our offense has done a tremendous job all season picking up the pitching and winning us games, and I love them to bits, but they can't win alone. They need some help from the mound. And what happens if/when they go through a cool period? Who will win our games for us then?
Man. That was without a doubt the craziest game so far this year. I'm so glad I got to listen to it since I couldn't watch it. And I look very much forward to seeing what happens tomorrow.GO TIGERS
