I got part of a shipment from Amazon yesterday. Okay, you know that thing where you're Christmas-or-whatever-holiday shopping, and you casually slip in an item or six for yourself on the basis of, "I'm spending money on other people so I'm allowed to spend money on myself and it isn't a waste at all"? Well, I did that. I got a gift for my baby brother Colby (I just realized that I will always call him "baby," until he is taller than me, at which point I will have to switch to "younger." Maybe) and for Betsey, so I treated myself one of Crispin Glover's CDs, the title of which is *pauses for breath* The Big Problem [Does Not Equal] The Solution. The Solution = Let It Be.

It features readings from a couple of his books, Oak Mot and Rat Catching, as well as some songs and spoken pieces. There's a rap about male masturbation (I know, I know, but it's actually pretty cool, as it neatly avoids getting all adolescent and sniggery about the subject), a quite scary cover of "These Boots Are Made for Walking" wherein his performance matches the threat of the lyrics, and other stuff.

Sublime. Brilliant. Amazing. Absorbing. There does not exist a superlative sufficient to describe this work of art that hath been wrought. I know I sound utterly ridiculous, but how else can you sound when you praise something effusively and mean every word? I now know what it's like to be physically affected by art.

Also, it's a perfect walking CD. The snow has rendered it impossible to ride my bike, so I have to go back to walking everywhere. The tempo and sound and beat of the music and words are perfect. The only problem is, I might get too absorbed, forget I'm in the middle of crossing the street and slow down (which I actually did on the way to the library) and get hit by a truck (which I did not do). I can think of worse ways to go.

I wish I had money. Then I could buy a copy for everyone I know. Too bad I've already gotten presents for the people who would like it.

Maybe I could do it for my birthday next month? Giving other people presents for my birthday this time around might be fun.
