Welcome to my friends list, o fellow TWoPper [livejournal.com profile] moneyca. =)

The Hamlet episode of MST3K is on right now. I wish I'd remembered to get up eariler an tape it; I live in terror of the day when the tape I have finally breaks.

Went to see PotC for the eighth time with my dad. He loved it, as I knew he would; he loves good fighting and special effects.

I think I've just about had my fill for now; maybe once more, if I get a chance, and then I'll be happy to wait for the DVD. Considering that five, maybe six, is generally my limit for the number of times I can stand to see a movie while it's in theatres, I'm rather surprised I've made it this far.

This evening I dug up our copy of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. (Interestingly, they altered the title in the adaptation; the book title is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.)

So interesting to watch it from an adult perspective, while keeping an eye out for the darker components of the story.

Would like to state for the record that Johnny Depp would make a fine Willy Wonka. (Told you I'd warm up to it; oddly, it took watching Gene Wilder to give me an idea of how very good Johnny would be.) Would also like to mention that Wonka is one of the more unnerving characters I've seen in a children's movie. Manipulative, callous, selfish, using the Oompa Loompas as slave labour - really, is he any better than the children (and parents) that the movie condemns?

I like him.

I cannot wait to see him and the rest of the story go through the Burtonogrifier. Must get hold of the book (and its sequel) soon.

See what I mean? Even The Onion agrees!

Okay, I'm done now.
