YAY BASEBALL.

So I decided against trying to watch two games at once, and missed a Bondo start for the first time in like forever. He did not care for this one bit and gave up five runs. I have learned my lesson and will not be missing another of his starts in the foreseeable future.

Then the bullpen sucked LIEK WO, especially Franklyn German, who felt the need to give up a grand slam. Our offense did its damnedest (you know, eventually) and came up with nine runs, but the pitching just sucked way too bad and we lost 12-9.

Amusing note: The best relief appearance tonight came from Craig Dingman, the guy brought up from AAA to fill in for Troy Percival, because Percy is on the DL (again) with a torn flexor pronator muscle mass (again). YAY. Maybe they'll let him room with Foulkie! Dingman gave up a single, walked a guy, and made an error, and was still the only relief pitcher - hell, the only Tigers pitcher all night - not to give up any runs. YAY DINGMAN. He's already better than Percy!

Oh, yeah, and all this was against the Royals. WTF?

And the Red Sox. Oh dear. Pitching not as bad as the Tigers - by which I mean we had more than one guy not give up a run - but it still had an even worse moment than Frankie's grand slam.

I pretty much saw it coming. When Schilling came out, I said this to [livejournal.com profile] hoedogg: "Um.  Call me crazy, but I'm not sure I want Schilling closing for the first time in a billion years after a lengthy DL stay in the first game in a four-game series against the Yankees in a tie situation.  Just saying."

I just wish it hadn't been the Princess.

Man, I'm all for experimenting with Schill as closer, but is this really a good time for his first go? Don't you wanna maybe wait for a game where we're, like, leading? Wonder much of that call was Terry.

. . . of course, we are talking about a guy who also likes to put Embree into tie games. Maybe when he did that tonight and it worked out, he figured, "What the hell." Most likely, though, it was pretty much set in stone regardless of score. Which, incidentally, ended up being 8-6.

So. No surprise there, please no Schill tomorrow unless we're ahead (or, you know way, behind, in which case what the hell), and we got a break missing out on Wang so let's take advantage. And why is the replacement pitcher, Tim Redding, wearing an Astros cap in his MLB mugshot? It hurts. Oh, and also if the Tigers pitching would please remember that they are dealing with the ROYALS, that would be swell. Thanks.

Yeah, speaking of the Astros, no game today. An offday after the All Star Break. Weird.

Hi there. Here via [livejournal.com profile] bakoo's FL.
And why is the replacement pitcher, Tim Redding, wearing an Astros cap in his MLB mugshot? It hurts.
I know, doesn't it? :-( He's from the next town over from me (don't know him personally) so I followed his career with the Astros; I was sorry to see him leave. I'm glad he's back home in New York, but did it have to be the Yankees? Bleagh.
Would you care to join my FL? We have a few things in common and I've read and enjoyed your fic on a few comms. If you need references I'm sure [livejournal.com profile] bakoo and [livejournal.com profile] offspeed will be kind enough to provide them. :-)

Aww, that's a bummer. If any of the boys I love ever become Yankees I don't know what I will do.

I would love to be friends, but I'm afrad I require a minimum of three references, none of which can be related to you, and a record of your friendships dating back the last ten years, with explanation of unfriended periods. Please attach extra paper if you need it.

Can you tell I've been filling out job applications lately?

I would love to, and thanks for asking; I don't demand it like some people, but it's nice to hear from someone who would like to friend me instead of finding some random-assed name in my user info. =D

*friends you back*

Thanks for friending me! I always feel it's at least good manners to ask about it first, you know? I hear you about that.
