Can it be true? Did it really happen? Did all my teams decide not to suck at life tonight?
WHY YES THEY DID. So let's just go in order of - whatever order I choose.
TIGERS.
Here's the thing I figured out. Remember how in my emo post, I said it was my extreme reaction to the Tigers loss that made me realize how stressed I am? Well, I think some weird connection happened in my brain right then, because I seem to have tied an awful lot of my stress and frustration into the Tigers in the past couple of days. I was much more upset by their losses yesterday than I really needed to be, and I think if they'd lost today I would have thrown up or something. That can't be healthy, shame I can't afford therapy.
Anyway. We won, so no vomit. Chris Shelton drove in a run, which puts him at twenty RBI in twenty games which is crazy and he rules. Magglio OrdoƱez followed that immediately with a two-run homer. That was in the third inning and the only runs we got all game. Bottom of the third, Aaron "Fucking" Boone got a homer, and he can stop getting homeruns off my teams any time now. If he doesn't, I will consider it a personal insult and will respond accordingly.
Mike Maroth only allowed one run and four hits. I love my pitchers.
By the way, I think Foulke has poisoned me. Because now every time our good players struggle a bit, I cringe and wait for the implosion. I went off on Pudge earlier for slumping even though he's having a good year by any standards other than the ones held for Pudge, and in the eighth inning, up by two runs, I was absolutely dying watching the Farns. He threw a lot of balls because his control was not the best, but in the end he gave up only a single and a walk and struck out three batters. That is a one hundred percent acceptable relief inning, a good one even, but I was just waiting for him to give away the game. Why? Because Keith Foulke has trained me well. Thanks, Keith.
Troy Percival did give up a run just tomake me hate him keep it interesting, but we won 3-2. Thank god (and not in the annoying Timlin way).
RED SOX.
Manny got his twentieth grand slam! He is now second all-time for grand slams, behind Lou Gehrig, who got twenty-three.
Papi got a two-run homer in the first, and Billy Mueller got a solo homer right after Manny's grand slam. This is at least the second game this season where all the runs we've scored have been on home runs. It's the second I remember, anyway, though I couldn't tell you when the first was.
On the pitching side of things, Wake did great right up until he didn't. Foulke's been sent down to Boston for tests on his knees, so it looks like we have a closer-by-committee thing going for now. Timlin closed tonight and took care of it nicely with six pitches. Sweet. Red Sox win 7-4.
ASTROS.
I was going to watch the Astros game instead of the Tigers for once, but Tigers started at seven and Astros not till eight, so I had to change my plans. Things I missed:
* Brandon Backe, like Maroth, giving up only one run and four hits.
* Jason Lane getting a three run homer. After they intentionally walked Morgan Ensberg. HA.
* Lidge pitching seventh inning relief instead of closing because he's been out with bicep problems.
* The Astros winning 6-2 and coming to within TWO GAMES OF .500!
Also, the Orioles lost today, which means ew the Yankees won, so the Sox finally managed to gain some ground and are now leading, I think, by 3.5 games. Excellent.
