So my sister, Chelsea, and I were going to go to the drive-in tonight, 'cos she hasn't seen Spider-Man 2 or White Chicks yet, and I wasn't to see S2 and was morbidly curious about what WC might be like when I'm one hundred percent sober. (I had those Smirnoff faux-vodka coolers to help me through the first viewing.)

Last night, she asks me (awkwardly, feeling bad about it, so don't get an impression of a thoughtless bitch here, 'cause she's so not) if I mind if we postpone so she can go with some friends tonight instead, since that particular outing is a one-time-only chance. I did mind, a little, but since she's a good kid I didn't make a big deal out of it.

And then her friends flake out and we don't have time to remake our plans. GRR. I don't have another night off till Sunday.

But in the interim, I got Chelsea to drive me out to the video store instead, so I could at least still watch movies. I rented Bad Santa with vague thoughts of trying to find another movie. Except it's a shitty little tiny store so they didn't have anything I wanted. (God, I miss Netflix.) I spotted Lost in Translation, but their only DVD copy was fullscreen. I've seen it before in fullscreen and it looks weird, so I passed. I searched in vain for anything good, and was mulling over finally trying to watch Office Space (last time I rented it, my VCR tried to eat it) when I came across the little bin full of used movies. I flipped through it.

And found a DVD copy of Lost in Translation.

Widescreen.

For TEN BUCKS.

GRAB.

Sure, this summer is about saving money and all that, I shan't go around pretending it's all right to buy bunches of movies, but when the hell am I going to find LiT for ten bucks again? Maybe in another three years. So I took the opportunity. And I don't regret it. Actually, I feel vaguely guilty, like I ripped the store off by buying it so cheap. Like I should go back and give them more money or something. *g*

So I did get something good after all even though I didn't get to go to the drive-in, and I couldn't have afforded to go after that anyway.

And we'll go later, and maybe by then Spider-Man 2 will be paired with something else. *hopes*
