catslash: (Hamlet is damn interesting)
([personal profile] catslash Jun. 20th, 2009 11:26 pm)
As I'm sure many of you have done, I have lost multiple chunks of my life to TV Tropes. The most recent chunk was at the Wild Mass Guessing page, which is a gathering of pages on different fandoms discussing fanon theories from the sensible to the insane. Many of them have an "X is a Time Lord" guess, and since Dollhouse, there are a lot of "X is a Doll" guesses popping up, too.

So! In my idleness, I have decided to pose this - I don't know, meme I just made up to you guys.

Name me a fandom I'm familiar with, and I'll tell you who's a Time Lord, who's a Doll, or both (probably both) and why.

Feel free to swipe and use this yourself, if you could stand to kill some time.

Pirates of the Caribbean and/or Dogma :B and/or Les Mis (are you at all surprised? XD )

<3 for you. If you ever decide you wanna rp again, you'd totally be welcome at my game XD

You are adorably predictable, is what you are. *pets*

PotC: Norrington is a Doll, tasked specifically with bringing pirates to justice. Allowing Jack to escape is a break in his programming; since this is the 1700s, it takes months for the Dollhouse to find out and get into gear to reclaim him (let's pretend his handler died in the initial undead pirate invasion). He can't handle the break in his programming and ends up breaking down completely.

And I hate to be obvious, but: Jack is a Time Lord and the Black Pearl is his TARDIS. His last regeneration was a mess and screwed with his memory, leaving him only with quirky characteristics and a driving need to have his TARDIS by his side. So to speak. It'll all sort itself out when he next regenerates.

Dogma: Silent Bob is a Time Lord and Jay is his companion. They do shit like this all the time. God chose them as prophets because She knew they'd be better able to keep it together than a lot of people would, and thus be stabilizing influences for Bethany. (Yes, even Jay. He probably thinks all the trips through time were more LSD- than TARDIS-induced.)

The Doll is the woman in the boardroom, sent in to infiltrate the Mooby corporation. Loki doesn't read any major sins from her because she is programmed to be a good, honorable person.

Les Mis: Enjolras, in all his limited singlemindedness, is the Doll. He was put in place to help kickstart the 1832 revolution in an attempt to weaken the current regime. It was a colossal waste of money.

Fantine is a Time Lady, disguised (even to herself) as human by a Chameleon Arch. When she died, she regenerated into Toussaint, the housekeeper Valjean hires when he and Cosette leave the convent. I have no idea if a Chameleoned Time Lord/Lady regenerates upon death, or if it breaks the disguise, but let's pretend they do, and it does. So, upon regenerating, Fantine/Toussaint found her TARDIS, skipped ahead in time, and got Valjean to hire her so she could look after her daughter after all.

I'm full up on RP, I'm afraid, but I am curious about your game anyway. What's it like?

From: [identity profile] cacopheny.livejournal.com

Those were awesome XD I love the Jack/Norrington one, and the Silent Bob/Jay is full of omgwin. I <3 Silent Bob. "No ticket." Hahaha.

Enjolras is also incredibly insightful, actually.

The game is... well, it's a setting kinda like Prae :P I wanted someplace I could port my Prae chars to after I got banned. Modern fantasy/horror, only with the character classes being different variations on the general themes (angels/demons are reborn humans of a particular and unwavering alignment, psychics are gifted humans who cannot pass on their gift, shifters have a small range of animals they shift into, etc), and we're flexible on variations of the theme. We've got one player playing a psychometric as a variant on clairvoyant, another playing a dreamwalker as a variant on telepath, for example.

The setting is a small, fictional town on the coast of Texas. Me and Lexi (from Prae; played Domino, Harper, Jordan, a couple others who I forget now) are the mods, we have a good portion of the old Prae crowd (as Taffy chases more and more people away, we kind of collect them...) and some newbies, and we're pretty exclusive. Invite-only, currently with fifteen members including the mods, and very high-quality writing. I pretty much run the gamewide plots (current one is a love potion infecting interested players' chars XD heheh, but we've also had a werewolf attack, mysterious paintings, and have plans for an overarching plot X3 ) with input from Lexi. I'm really very proud of it X3

I'll link you if you like XD But no pressure. I'd love to rp with ya again, but if yer full up, you can just take this as bragging instead of trying to sell =D

EDIT: psychics, not physics :P god I love having a paid account and being able to edit my comments XD

Bobby Singer is a Time Lord. How else would he always know exactly what the boys need to know exactly when they need to know it?

The Doll? Jessica Moore. Azazel needed an in to Sam's new life, a guaranteed way to traumatize him right back into the old one at a time of Azazel's choosing. But Sam is too smart and experienced to fall for any supernatural tricks he might pull, so he had to resort to hiring a Doll to get Sam's attention and worm her way into his life.

There used to be twenty-one Dollhouses. The Dollhouse he used attempted to charge him the full fees for a dead Doll. Now there are twenty Dollhouses.

Ooh, I like this meme a lot but mm fandoms are hard. How about The Fix and Torchwood though I'm not sure if Torchwood counts, hopefully it does.

Torchwood is tricky with the Time Lord part, but I happen to be a fan of the "Ianto is the Master" theory. Even if it makes no actual sense. Torchwood generally prefers not to make sense.

The Doll is the pizza girl from "Cyberwoman." She was implanted by UNIT to infiltrate Torchwood, because they don't trust Jack one bit. This did not end well.

For The Fix, the obvious Doll is Tina. She was commissioned by Gliardi to get Cal in a compromising position so he could get a foothold in Cal's career. She was also programmed to fall in love with Cal while also remaining strictly loyal to Gliardi, so she would be useful in the future as well.

The Time Lord is Bobby Barrel, Cal's biological father. This explains how he keeps popping up to torment Violet long after his death - he's more than just a ghost. Or a weird meta device for the purpose of moving the story along.

This makes Cal half Time Lord. Everyone involved was surprised as hell when he regenerated after dying. His regenerated form, a black man as charming and charismatic as his previous incarnation, went on to run for President in 2008 on a platform of hope and change. Perhaps you've heard of him.

I could not stop myself. XD

Oh! Your game sounds like fun, by the way. I'm glad there's a place for people to land and recover from Taffy's incredible bullshit.

From: [identity profile] cacopheny.livejournal.com

Thanks! I'm quite pleased with how it's going :) And my players seem happy, so that's what matters ^^

We might even be getting one who disappeared right around the time you and I joined O.o Who also disappeared due to... Taffy issues XD Yeah. That game is not going so hot right now :P :: tries not to gloat, largely fails >.> ::

That is awesome. :D

Ahahaha, I cannot imagine why. Damn, I'm glad I faded on Praelitis when I did. That was crazy.

Okay, how 'bout the baseball RPG?

The Doll is Huston Street, a top secret experiment to create the perfect closer. It went horribly wrong because Billy Beane, being Billy Beane, did not put enough emphasis on a functional personality in the specs he drew up. Huston's programming got seriously fucked at some point early on. This is why he was never able to recover from his perpetual victim attitude - it wasn't psychological, it was his programming. But it didn't have to do with baseball, so Beane never bothered to send him in to get patched up.

The Time Lord was David Wells. This is how he managed to avoid getting sucked into the giant black hole of drama that claimed everyone around him.

. . . why is that so plausible?

Red Sox baseball (I have my own ideas.... hah, I want to see if they match up)
ext_41681: (Default)

From: [identity profile] catslash.livejournal.com

Oh, man, I don't follow baseball the way I used to. I keep an eye on the game scores, but I'm not as familiar with the players.

So! Blast from the past(ish) edition.

The Doll is Tek. Unfortunately, his physical ability can't keep up with his gameplay programming, but Theo can't renege on the longterm contract he signed or there will be dire consequences. So, he's stuck keeping Tek around until he can send him back and get a new Doll. Where else are they gonna get catchers these days?

The Time Lord is Kevin Millar. This is why he was so confident during the 2004 ALCS (See: "Don't let us win this one" - he knew!), and also why he is such a spaz who can't seem to concentrate on his game. Being a Time Lord is wicked distracting when you're trying to play ball.

OH GOD DID YOU CLICK. I THOUGHT IT WAS UNDERSTOOD THAT TV TROPES LINKS ARE TO BE LEFT ALONE.

From: [identity profile] apiphile.livejournal.com

I AVOIDED IT BY RUNNING AWAY FROM MY LAPTOP.

I mean that literally. I dropped my laptop and ran way. My boyfriend thought I'd seen something horrendous.

HELLO IT IS ME IN DISGUISE.

Any role that Crispin Glover has ever played!

(Shut up that is totally a fandom.)

HELLO ME IN DISGUISE.

The Time Lord is George McFly. He was sent to monitor Doc Brown and make sure Doc didn't fuck up the timeline with the DeLorean.

. . . he wasn't very good at it.

The Doll is the Thin Man from Charlie's Angels. He was kind of an early prototype, hence the weird mannerisms and hair-sniffing fetish.

They were playing this insane cover of "Ben" in a department store today and I almost fell over from tidal wave of hilarious thought. RAAAAATS.

From: [identity profile] littlestclouds.livejournal.com

Not that I'm actually going to do this (cough) but I just realized I can actually download and watch Torchwood episodes since I ditched MacHacha for Split and Concat. >_>
