All right. Being that I have nothing else to do, what with the unemployment and all (boring story, kinda long), I've been devouring Doctor Who for the last week as fast as MegaUpload's download limit will let me.

I have just finished "The Runaway Bride," the Christmas special preceding the current series. And I think I know what its entire purpose is! See, they knew people would be bummed about Rose and wary of accepting a new companion, so what they did was, they invented Donna, made her the most annoying shrieky thickheaded character ever to grace the series revival, and terrified us with the Doctor's invitation to her to travel with him. They knew that after dodging that bullet, we'd be a lot more openminded. It worked, too. I'm grateful for Martha already and I haven't even met her.

And blast Donna for saying, after turning down the Doctor's invitation, "Just promise me this: Find someone." Because I just watched Rose's final episode last night and I wanted so badly for her to say just that. I know she wasn't exactly thinking clearly as she said her goodbyes, but after all that worry about the Doctor being alone, and talking about how he needs someone to hold on to, why didn't she say that? Why didn't she make him promise not to isolate himself? She was very possessive of him, true, but I just don't think that that would extend so far. Maybe she couldn't bear to think about them being apart. Maybe she really just wasn't thinking that clearly. But it would have been the best thing she could have done for him. The only thing, really. I think it will come back to haunt her, and that one day when she can stand to think about it she'll hope that he did find someone else. Because I can't speak to the previous incarnations of the Doctor, but with this one, she and Donna are right. He can't travel alone.

Yeah, so that wasn't supposed to turn into a big rambling paragraph. It just bugs me.

Anyway! I have to go dive into series three, because that someone was kind enough to host on a private server (I cannot link you, but I can help you find it for yourself! E-mail me), so I have the whole thing waiting for me. It wasn't easy resisting while I made my slow way through the last few episodes, but I'm really glad I did.

I love Martha. She's brilliant. Not Rose, but brilliant in her own way.
Still, I sort of miss Rose. And her mum.

I didn't really mind Donna that much, but then I've a love for Catherine Tate and I pretty much expect her characters to be some kind of annoying.

Yeah, I've watched the first couple episodes of series three, and I'm coming to like Martha quite a bit. I will miss the Tylers, though, and even Mickey a little. I was thinking last night about how unsettling it is that we'll never see how they're getting on.

Of course, the way it's set up, that's as it should be. We'll know for sure that the new DW has jumped the shark if they ever try to bring back the Tylers.

So being annoying is kind of Catherine Tate's thing, then? I wasn't familiar with her, so I didn't know what to expect. I just knew that this woman seriously needed to shut up before I smacked her.

Yeah, I'll miss Mickey too. I liked his character, that they didn't necessarily make him the outwardly strong one. Not at first, at least.

Heh. I can understand.
Catherine Tate has (or had, not sure if there'll be new episodes) a sketch comedy show on the BBC where a lot of the characters she plays wouldn't exactly be nice to be around but are very funny. Though I'm getting over the Lauren character a bit now, the rest still amuses me.

Did you see the Catherine Tate/David Tennant Comic Relief sketch? YouTube link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9uugVWW_XE). Ignore the scary man at the beginning.
There are a lot more sketches on there, if you're interested. Many seem to be Lauren ones, but there's also ones with that weird snobby dramatic family, the swearing gran, and Derek.
