Oh holy Christ the kids next door have discovered the joys of taking really loud, tuneless blasts on their recorders. Outside. On a hot sticky day when everyone without AC has the windows wide open. SEND HELP. Or considerate parents.
EDIT: Oh, NEVERMIND. I had to close my window anyway, because my room was filling up with the SMOKE FROM THEIR BARBEQUE.
I am not blaming the neighbors for this, because that has never happened before. But - what the hell?
Of course, the recorders are still crystal clear. I sincerely apologize to any and all neighbors who lived nearby when I was going through my recorder phase as a child.

And comfort yourself by imagining how terrible their cookout must be if they're charring stuff so badly that it's smoking that much...

That smoke thing really was weird. They cook out plenty and it's never happened before. It must have been a combination of the wind blowing in just the right direction and the humidity making the smoke heavier, or something. It only lasted for a minute, so it must have been when they'd just lit the charcoal or something. It was so bizarre to look up and see smoke billowing in through my window.
