catslash: (yes! wait . . . - credit I have no idea)
([personal profile] catslash Nov. 3rd, 2006 06:23 pm)
omg, I'm doing a meme. Ganked from [livejournal.com profile] sadsadmonkey (and no, Sly, you can't guess the one I guessed - let's see if someone else can get it).

Ten of my fandoms, each in a sentence. Guess them, and you can feel special and happy! It's limited to TV/books/movies/video games. They range from the obvious and recent to the more obscure and (relatively, since I am twenty-three) ancient.

1. Changing sexes on a regular basis is the least bizarre thing that happens to this guy. Ranma 1/2 - [livejournal.com profile] akatonbo. Also correctly guessed by [livejournal.com profile] piney61 and [livejournal.com profile] gileonnen.

2. The true Lex Luthor - accept no shiny fresh-faced teenage imitations! - Lois and Clark: the New Adventures of Superman - [livejournal.com profile] akatonbo. (Michael Rosenwho? It's John Shea or no one!)

3. It's your typical TV high school filled with mid-twenties teenagers, except they end up in spandex and helmets a lot. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers - [livejournal.com profile] thekatcameback

4. A bunch of kids in Brooklyn see dead people - well, a dead person. Ghostwriter - [livejournal.com profile] piney61. [livejournal.com profile] gileonnen also got this one.

5. Dude, seriously, you can quit harping on how hot your dad was any time now. Hamlet - [livejournal.com profile] gileonnen

6. Fuck all if I can follow the complicated political story, but the pilots sure are pretty. Gundam Wing - [livejournal.com profile] thekatcameback

7. Why didn't it just end after three seasons to go out on a high note? Okay, this could be a lot of shows, but I was looking for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which [livejournal.com profile] gileonnen finally guessed to finish this meme off.

8. I also watched an adult-oriented yet less engrossing version of this show called Voyager. Space Cases - [livejournal.com profile] thekatcameback

9. Who else misses the Century of the Fruitbat? The Discworld series - [livejournal.com profile] gileonnen

10. How is it that I can remember GC-161 effortlessly, but I have to think to remember what year my sister was born? - The Secret World of Alex Mack - [livejournal.com profile] piney61

Ooh, Tiger colors.

...well, #1 is Ranma 1/2. And I should do this meme.

You like?

Yes on both counts. I never got into the anime, but I collected the manga for a while and even wrote fanfic. And you should totally do this meme, it's fun. *g*

Yes! :D GOD, I loved that show. And I had such a crush on John Shea. ♥ Well done!

1) Ranma 1/2?
2) Smallville
3) Beverley Hills 90210
4) GHOSTWRITER!
5) No effing clue
6) Ditto
7) Lost?
8) Battlestar Galactica
9) Yankee slash?

1. Yes, but [livejournal.com profile] akatonbo beat you to it.
2. No, but close.
3. Haha. Nope.
4. Yes! omg I loved that show. I used to wait desperately for each new episode. I still don't know why they recast Gaby and then cancelled it like three mysteries later.
7. No. I have to be the only person I know who never got into that show.
8. Nope.
9. No.
10. Yes! I adored that show. Hint: Check out YouTube. I am hoping for DVDs someday.

Shit how could I have NOT gotten Space Cases?! I fucking LOVED that show. And count me among the ones who didn't go for Lost.

From: [identity profile] gileonnen.livejournal.com

All just guesses!

1. Ranma 1/2
2. Superman
3. Sky High
4. Ghostwriter
5. No clue, so we'll put a probably-not: Hamlet?
6. Not even going near it; no idea.
7. . . . it's on TV? ^_^;;
8. Star Trek: Not Voyager.
9. DISCWORLD!
10. No clue. ^__^;

1. Yes, but already guessed twice.
2. Be more specific! There are tons of versions of Superman out there. One of them is the answer I'm looking for.
3. No, though from what I've heard of it I can see where you got that.
4. Yep. Also already guessed. I am thinking we are all approximately the same age. *g*
5. Actually - yes! Hamlet is correct. I don't know where the Oedipal theory came from when Gertrude is clearly not the parental object of Hamlet's lust. ;)
7 and 8. Hee, good starts.
9. Yes! I love that Pratchett is having Discworld, especially Ankh-Morpork, grow and evolve like any society, but sometimes I miss the simplicity of pre-clacks Discworld.

From: [identity profile] gileonnen.livejournal.com

Heh, it's just good to have someone else in a Shakespeare fandom. ^___^;

Also? If second guesses are fine, is 7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

From: [identity profile] catslash.livejournal.com

Yes! Ha, I was just starting to wonder if I'd been too vague with that. Yeah, looking back at that show, the beginning of the end is SO clearly the first episode of season four. It was never same after season three.

And, I love Hamlet. I have written fic and everything. It's just such a great story. In spite of its long-winded and irritating protagonist. :P

From: [identity profile] gileonnen.livejournal.com

*grin* Glad I could prove you competent at explaining?

You've written fic? May I see? ^_______^

Yup!

"Protest Too Much" (http://community.livejournal.com/contrelamontre/125800.html) and "Prov'd Most Royal." (http://community.livejournal.com/contrelamontre/234362.html)

From: [identity profile] gileonnen.livejournal.com

Oh, dear--I've actually read the latter somewhere, I don't remember quite where, but never the former, and it's just . . . guh, your Hamlet is exactly perfect, more so than anyone else's I've read but Shakespeare's. The perfect blend of brilliance and madness and need--wonderful. ^________^ Also, I think that Horatio/Fortinbras seriously needs to be explored more. ^__^ You've really made my night; thank you!
ext_41681: (Default)

From: [identity profile] catslash.livejournal.com

I reread both of those myself after I linked them, and I have to say that "Protest Too Much" has really stood up well. I'm usually not too impressed with anything of mine three and a half years after the fact, but I like that one a lot. I kept going back to reread bits. And it's funny I should capture Hamlet so well when I can't freaking stand him and I spend most of the play waiting for him to die. :P /ego

I was gonna do a sequel to "Prov'd Most Royal," but I think I wrote like a sentence. *g* And I can't remember anything that was going to be in it.

I'm really glad you liked them. You know, I randomly received feedback for my old story about Barbossa and apples today. I guess it's just old story feedback day. I can go with that. :D

From: [identity profile] gileonnen.livejournal.com

^______^ Would it bother you too terribly if I asked to be notified when you do any more fic? Because I'm asking. You're terribly talented.

(For the record, I can't stand Hamlet, either. I love the choleric rebels too much--the melancholics, even the really really smart ones, don't much interest me. XP)

I always post it on my journal. I haven't written real fic in ages. My webpage (linked at the top) has a bunch, though, and I've got some in my memories as well.

My problem with Hamlet is not that indecisiveness thing that everyone seems to bitch about. It's not like his father's ghost asked him to keep up with the laundry. He asked him to take a life! I think Hamlet's entitled to a bit of waffling.

My problem is that he does. not. shut. up. He is in love with the sound of his own voice and his cleverness. He makes me sound like someone with a hangover: "Waffle all you want, Hamlet, just do it quietly."

I always liked the bit in Branagh's production where he stands there in the snow and yammers for ten minutes. I can just see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern standing there off-screen. "Uh - Hamlet? Uh, we're gonna miss the boat if you keep stopping to talk to the rocks. . . . Hamlet?"

From: [identity profile] gileonnen.livejournal.com

That's sad--but then again, I haven't, either. =( Real life sucks sometimes. But I shall go to your site!

I agree on that--but then again, he seems to be acting out to get attention, since his lack of real grief for his father appears to be a motivating factor in his decision to take the vengeance mission (and his reservations about the same). Honestly, I think he's glad he gets to play crazy, because he's secretly a big drama queen who needs the affirmation of others' notice. Which is all just personal speculation, by the way. =)

Branagh seems to have a ton of fun with his monologues--in the words of [livejournal.com profile] poetrywolf, when he's being Iago, "he pauses while ravishing his wife to lean back and do a monologue," which cracked her up. ^__^

3. Power Rangers?

6. Gundam Wing!

7. Digimon?

8. SPACE CASES?!?!?!?!
ext_41681: (Default)

From: [identity profile] catslash.livejournal.com

3. Yes! Specifically, Mighty Morphin, since I'm a horrible snob about that show and its various incarnations. *g*
6. Yes! Seriously, what the hell was that show about? Oh, well. Duo and Quatre are awesome and that's the important part.
7. I almost did Digimon, but no. I only ever watched season two. Ken/Daisuke 4eva!
8. I knew you'd get that one. :)

From: (Anonymous)

3. I've actually only ever seen that one.

6. Oh man, I know. My big problem was I got into it through fanfic, so I was like, "Wait, what are they talking about? Politics? Where is the gay sex?"

7. Heee. Iori/Takeru was mine. But I had a stupid fangirl thing for Izzy, man. AM I ALLOWED A SECOND GUESS BECAUSE THERE IS ANOTHER. Just, I turned off the tv the minute season three of Digimon ended. :(

8. I did a little squeak and got it. :) Best show evar.
