Have been busy.
Rikki and I spent the weekend up in Orono to go to a fencing event, where we got to hang out with
iarwain, then I went to Old Town and spent the night over at
manderspander while Rikki stayed with a friend of her own. Amanda introduced me to Newsies, which has been on my "See It Eventually" list for years, and then showed me the accelerated version of Velvet Goldmine, also known as "Amanda tries to show me her favourite scenes but must fast forward through half the movie in order to find them." Then on Sunday, we watched football with her friend Nick, which was awesomely fun and if I could I'd go up and do it every week.
But most importantly of all, on Friday I randomly decided to go see I [Heart] Huckabees, hereafter referred to as merely Huckabees because the full title is a bit awkward to type out. I was on the fence about seeing it, since I wasn't terribly impressed by the trailer I saw (several times, in front of Shaun of the Dead), but I wanted to do something on Friday. Why I chose Huckabees I can't really say; maybe Amanda's Jude Law obsession is rubbing off just a little? But oh my GOD I'm so glad I did. I loved it so much.
Not that I can explain why. Huckabees is not an explainable movie, which I suppose is why the trailer is so unremarkable. If I tried to describe the plot, or any one scene, it would come off as sounding useless, overthought, and/or rather pretentious. It has to be seen. And then it should be seen again, for all the details that will make sense or stand out now that you know what's going to happen. And then it should be seen again, which it's going to be tomorrow, because I love this movie and how it makes me feel. And maybe if I wish really, really hard, Jude Law and Jason Schwartzman will make out this time around.
