Whee! Signed up for Netflix. Now everyone close your eyes and pretend with me that I can afford it. Note to self: Use three successive days off this week to find second part time job. Special bonus points for finding one that pays for slightly better than shit.

Dear Movie Gallery customers,
No. We do not have any copies of Secondhand Lions. Or Radio. (Why on earth do you want to rent that, anyway?) Nope, not Open Range, either. And definitely not Lost in Translation, as corporate in its eternal wisdom only sent us THREE COPIES. Yes, I know this is not your fault. And I appreciate that you understand that it's not my fault. It's Movie Gallery's fault, because it is clearly run by morons who don't have the slightest understanding of supply and demand, and so don't send us nearly enough product. Unfortunately, they are not around for me to yell at, so I have no choice but to redirect my anger, and you are the easiest targets. I survived yesterday and today, but I swear the next person who asks for any of the above titles is getting beaten over the head with the nearest DVD case.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I will reciprocate by recommending that you go to Videoport, which appreciates and rewards its customers, or to the Blockbuster that's moving in across the street, because for all the horror stories I've heard, I bet their rental fees are more reasonable than ours.

Love,
Cathryn, who loves her job but hateshateshates her employer

PS: Also, our selection sucks. Why else do you think I had to join Netflix when I get free rentals at work?

So remember, kids: Movie Gallery hates you. It overcharges you and doesn't offer any practical deals or a decent selection. It also underpays its employees, places arbitrary restrictions on them, and what little money it does give them is paid to them via The Worst System In The World, just so they don't have to foot the cost of the paper checks and paystubs. If you can rent somewhere else, do. I'd apply at the new Blockbuster when they open, except that I doubt working there would be an improvement.

In spite of the tone of this, I'm actually pretty happy right now. Except that I have to get going, 'cos the library's closing soon.
