Hey, ff.net, why is it that when I'm at the library and shouldn't spend too awful much time reading fic, you load just fine, but when I'm at my mom's house and have the entire night to spend online killing my brain with Charlie's Angels fic if I feel like it YOU WON'T LOAD?? *GROWL*
Uh, yes. So, anyway, I'm at my mom's for the holidays and shall be online (and on AIM) for a damn long time tonight and hopefully tomorrow night as well. She told me last night that my account on the computer had been deleted (which incidentally means that I've lost all my webpage files AGAIN, as well as a couple of downloaded programs I liked, but I'd rather not dwell), but she's letting me use hers and, after I got her to understand that deleting my account without asking is akin to throwing away physical boxes of my stuff without asking, she said I could DL a program or two. So, I'm DLing GraphicConverter so I can make the Red Sox and Crispin Glover icons I've been dying to make for a month now. =D
Christmas was of the good. All my gifts were well received (in particular, my mom just about died when she unwrapped her Soap DVDs, and my sister fell into a blissful reverie studying her Good Charlotte calendar) and I didn't do so badly myself:
* TTT extended edition
* PotC (YAY!)
* The second season of Coupling
* A couple of obscure books I had on my Amazon list, which is cool because normally I'd never be able to ask for something so specific because it would be too hard to track down.
* A hiliariously flashy Red Sox t-shirt (think tie-dye and touches of white designed to make the letters appear puffy), the ridiculousness of which I loved instantly.
* An ubercool black t-shirt with the first half of Sarah's speech from Labyrinth on the front and back of it in sparkly pink-to-red text: "Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City . . ."/". . . to take back the child that you have stolen." I mentioned this to my sister but didn't think I'd get it, so I was delighted. It has special significance, as we grew up watching that movie, and I can't remember a time in my life when I couldn't quote that speech verbatim. I'd quote the rest of it, but it's a spoiler. And there might be people under rocks somewhere who like the fantasy genre and haven't seen this movie yet.
* A Queer Eye calendar, which I believed I've already mentioned as being the item that my mom and I saw, squealed over, and agreed to buy together and exchange copies of at Christmas.
* A Visa gift card from my well-off and incredibly generous stepgrandmother, who is the kind of person who would always find some way to give no matter how little she had. The amount: One hundred fifty dollars. My sister got one of the same size, and my mom and stepfather each got four hundred. And I'm sure every one of her relatives got similar gifts.
* A gift certificate to my favourite comic book store, Casablanca.
* A twenty-five dollar check from my dad, which is actually pretty funny considering that I do pay him rent and all. I suspect he just panicked a little because he ran out of ideas after the candle set and the coffee set (which, by the way, would have been fine all by themselves, as I am old enough not to expect a bunch of gifts from my parents anymore; a fraction of the stuff my mom got me would have been fine, too - well, fine by me, anyway, but probably not by her 'cos she loves buying stuff for us offspring).
* A few little things I've forgotten, and of course various types of candy and entertaining stocking stuffers (I bet anything I'm the only person in the world who got smoked oysters in her stocking, and am also the only person who would have wanted them).
Things I need to get with that gift card and check:
* Almereyda's Hamlet
* Oak-Mot, which is one of Crispin's books
* The Firefly DVDs
* A couple other things that I'm probably not remembering
My mom and I have birthdays next month. I only got her a couple things for Christmas (usually I get three or four) and so need to make it up on her birthday.
And after presents, we spent the day quietly at home; Chelsea went with dad to our aunt's house, but since he is spending way too long at said aunt's, I declined to go. Also, I have to work on Saturday.
So, my Christmas kicked ass, and I can't wait to finish giving out presents to friends, and seeing friends, and also it looks like I'll finally get to RotK on Saturday night. YAY!
