Dammit. My Hamlet tape is FULLSCREEN. Since it was fimed in 70MM - ie, really-freaking-widescreen - this means that some of the scenes just look like crap. I particularly like the ones of two characters facing each other, and you can just barely see the profile of whoever isn't talking. And then there are the myriad shots three-person shots where you can't even see one of the characters because a THIRD OF THE PICTURE has been cut off. Kenneth made such full use of the widescreen format that it takes from the quality of the film to make it fullscreen. It's like a pedigree dog with a leg amputated; still beautiful, but it's just sad.
Oh, well. It will do until the DVD comes out in the spring. Still though, I'm fervently glad I only paid five bucks and shipping for it.
My new job is at a gas station/fast food/convenience store thing, so Anji has decided that I am Dante Hicks. This is probably my fault, since I told her that the light in the bathroom is off half the time and I'm expecting to walk in on a dead man with a Playboy any day now.
Speaking of work, had a five-thirty shift today and so got up at three-thirty. Had to get up early, as my stomach is very delicate in the morning and I have to be up for at least an hour before I can eat. Besides which, I've decided that if morning shifts mean getting up early, I'm gonna make it worth my while and watch me some Hamlet. So, since I am a night owl, all this means that I got three hours of sleep. And Hamlet? Is really interesting to be watching before sunrise on three hours' sleep. Every single word was SO fascinating. I have never been so absorbed in it as I was this morning. And I refuse to count how many times I teared up. "At him." *snf*
And then I worked for eight hours and now I'm home and beginning to feel how tired I am, so I decided to make this entry while I was still semi-coherent. Just in time too: My mom came in to tell me about how I leave the lights on a lot, then she left. My parting shot? I called "Goodnight" after her. Why is this strange, you may ask? (Well, Anji did.) Because I meant it. For a brief second, I was honestly convinced that she was going to bed. At three in the afternoon.
I may actually sleep well tonight for the first night in weeks.
