An excerpt from a fic I wrote during spring training:

[Alex] feels someone draw up next to him and looks over to see Gary in full default smirk mode.

"Lookin' good, Alex."

Alex goes hot in the face and is about to retort, when Gary gives him a lingering lookover and continues, "Lookin'
real good." A quick leer, then he puts on a little speed and pulls away. [. . .] [S]hit, he doesn't want to do this all over again. He thought Gary got the Not Interested message last year. Making him back the hell off was a tricky and exhausting process, and Alex still wonders if Derek didn't finally settle things by pulling Sheff aside for a quiet word or two behind Alex's back. Maybe Gary thinks that everything starts fresh in the spring.

Now check out this article (link goes to a post in [livejournal.com profile] ayrdaomei's journal, since the Post requires registration and she was kind enough to copry and paste. Thank you!). Looks like the Princess finally caved to the Sheffield charm. Or, you know, the Sheffield scariness.

The best Sheffield quote: "We're going to bring our gold, our jewel in there, which is A-Rod." Damn, dude. First he tries to get to first base with Jeter on the field, now this? Tone it down a few zillion notches, Sheff.

And do I even need to get into the rest of that crap? How ridiculous it is to go in there assuming that the Sox have it in for A-Rod? Guess what, Gary: they're just playing ball. I suggest you do the same. The idea of any of the Yankees going in actively looking for trouble gives me the creeps, because when you are looking for trouble, you tend to find it. I just hope that the rest of the Yankees are smart enough to ignore Sheffield's bullshit and concentrate on the series at hand, because as much as I love a good baseball brawl, there's an explosive edge to the Sox/Yankees that I just don't like. After the problems with Sheffield and that fan, there was discussion in the Sox blogosphere about how at this rate something really terrible is going to have to happen for hostilities to get down to a reasonable level again. Sheffield's remarks reminded me very strongly of that and I think I'm going to be on edge during the entire series. Please, guys, just play the game, okay?
