catslash: (long day)

The actual headline on the MLB scoreboard for the first game in the Tigers/Angels doubleheader, which the Angels won: "Suicide is painless: DaVanon squeeze lifts Angels." OMG MLB IS SO EMO. Seriously. WTF does that even mean? I mean, I know what it means, but - what does it mean?!

By the way, I was totally not wrong about the inauspicious start to the day. I got to work and discovered that, due to corporate cutting down on our allotted hours for each week, I am only working four days next week. (They base the allotted hour son the sales this time LAST YEAR, which is not only stupid but totally fucking us over, since sales sucked last year and are way up this year.) I have also discovered that apparently, when Lori (the manager) goes over on scheduled hours, or there are gas drive-offs, the money comes out of her paycheck. Yeah. Is anyone else's bullshit meter going off on that? Is that even legal? Even if it is, I definitely don't think I like working for a company that pulls shit like that. Oh god not another job search. Oh yes. Cumby's was just what I had to take because I had enough money left for a week's rent anyway. I hate to do it, because I am the only steady morning person Lori has, but this place sucks, my job sucks, and I hate customer service so much it's affecting my job performance. I've got to start looking for something else.

Oh yeah. Also, Lori was wicked sick last week, but since the store can't run itself, she had to come in anyway, so I worked with her all week. Then today, I had to leave early on account of exhaustion whalloping me over the head and possible feverishness. I wonder where that came from. Maybe it's a good thing that I have the next three days off.

*nods* I know that, even though it definitely took me a minute, because what is with the bad tortured fauxGoth poetry? It is very distracting.

**laughs** Okay, I had pretty much that same reaction to that headline. "Okay...?"

Seriously. Way to leap past "cute and creative" and land squarely on "incoherent and disturbing," guys.

Wandered over here from the sportsslash comm, I think...couldn't help commenting. :-)

'Suicide is Painless' is the theme song from M*A*S*H (incidentally my favorite TV show of all time, but I digress).

The TV show doesn't use the words to the song ('suicide is painless/it brings on many changes/and you can take or leave it if you choose') for obvious reasons, among them being that A)it really doesn't make any sense in the context of the sitcom and B)the networks would never have allowed it.

But the movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066026/) (Robert Altman directing Donald Sutherlin & Elliot Gould--pure genius) does use the words. A character decides he wants to kill himself and Trapper and Hawkeye arrange a 'funeral,' (with music--hence the song) and actually give him a sleeping pill so he wakes up with a changed mind. Much darker humor than the show.

And the book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0688149553/qid=1116955086/sr=8-11/ref=pd_ka_4/104-6273849-3569512?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) is good, too.
