I was looking at pictures from today's Yankees/Rangers game, and I found this picture . . .

I mean . . . look at it. The caption claims that it's a picture of Bernie Williams chucking his bat and helmet aside after getting struck out. I think the caption LIES. I think that Bernie is using the Force. Either that, or Bernie is desperately hoping for guidance from Evil McHelmet. And it looks like Evil McHelmet is about to talk.

Seriously, though . . . this is one of those pure-chance photos. A split second sooner or later, and we wouldn't get the bat and helmet hovering in the air looking like a demented Darth Vader, and we wouldn't get that look of deranged, earnest serenity on Williams's face. The more I look at it, the harder it makes me giggle. A brilliant example of photographic art by accident.

If you will forgive the brief vocabulary lesson: You mean "revenge." To "avenge" is to get revenge for the sake of someone. Example: "Inigo Montoya had long sought revenge on the six-fingered man to avenge his father's death."

*cough* Sorry. I should be an English teacher. At least then when I take it upon myself to correct someone, I'll be getting paid to do it.

Otherwise, though: HA. Yes, that is a cheap joke, but it's funny anyway.
