So. Best day EVER.
I finally get a call from work at quarter of nine to come in. This, of course, after calling everywhere I know of to see if I can get the store open already. I get there to find that Kevin never showed up, and the folks from the office next door have opened the store (why, I'm damned if I know, since they needed my code to get the register open so they could actually take customers). This concerns me greatly, as it is very much unlike Kevin to just not show. He just doesn't do shit like that, especially not when he's been killing himself there in the first place. Last I knew, we still hadn't heard from him, and I am still worried.
On the other hand, the district manager assures me that I won't get shortchanged on my paycheck, so that's good.
So when I get out of work, after a hectic, confused shift, I come home, watch the Daily Show I taped last night, and chat on the phone with
manderspander for a while. Then I decide that I need to run back out to Cumby's to get a frozen pizza, because when the cravings hit, there is no ignoring them. On my way out the door, I run into Scott, who is also headed out.
I get back home - having been gone maybe five, six minutes - to find the door locked. The ONE TIME I forget my key, of course. So I go back to Cumberland Faarms, call Rikki to get her dad's cell number (yay for cells, and yay for being able to find Rikki's workplace in the phonebook), call Scott, and humbly beg him to come back and let me in, apologizing all over myself in the process. He's all, "Well, I guess I have no choice," which, yes you do, so shut it with the martyr bit and come let me in so I don't have to get in my coworkers' way for the next three hours till Rikki gets home. None of which I said of course, because I was too busy feeling like a moron to even think of it. Plus, not a good idea.
So he comes back. I'm waiting out front, having worked out more apology and a joke or two to lighten things up. I barely have time to get out "Thank you. I'm sorry!", because he is so superpissed at this point that he just unlocks and goes. Not a word.
So, gyah.
Honestly, I'm surprised I hadn't locked myself out before now. I have a terrible memory, and I've always lived in small towns with unlocked doors so I'm not used to having to remember a key.
So in conclusion, best day ever. *sigh*
