Supernatural!

* ELLEN AND JO ELLEN AND JO ELLEN AND JO OMG ELLEN AND JOOOOOOOO.

I had long since resigned myself to never seeing them again. But there they are! And Ellen is still awesome. Oh man. Jo does not really live up to the fanon people have spent the last couple of years creating for her, but someone else can write that damn essay, because: Ellen and Jo!!! And they lived through the episode and EVERYTHING. (Living through the series . . . we'll see. I'm not sure I even expect Sam and Dean to manage that.)

* In other significant survivors news: Just last week, Rufus Turner was pointed out to me as the sole black man who has managed to survive his tenure on the show to date. My response to this was, "RUN AWAY RUFUS. RUN." He clearly did not listen. He too was able to make it through the episode, but I don't like his chances of surviving. On the other hand, like I said, I don't like anyone's chances of surviving, and this time I doubt very much that Rufus's skin color is really hurting his odds.

* Horsemen! Neat. But was anyone else, while watching, struck with the realization that they will be comparing everything the show does with that to Good Omens, and that there's no way SPN can win that battle? Sorry, show, but if even the Four Horsemen can't survive a showdown with the Them, you don't have a chance.

* On the one hand, I find it annoying that Dean's medallion JUST SO HAPPENS to be the God Detector. On the other hand, I suppose it makes sense that the God Detector would find its way to Michael's vessel. So I can't decide whether you should live or die that's another bit of sloppy writing like Bobby's possession last week (please, as if Bobby wouldn't have taken every precaution in the book and made up a few more besides by now, and what is up with trying to convince us the boys are too stupid to to have a routine check in place? Actually, I almost buy that last part, esp. with the absurdly surprised reaction to Ellen's throwing holy water in Dean's face), or if it's justifiable.

However, as I recall, the medallion was originally for John, but Sam changed his mind and gave it to Dean instead, right? If so, that's the second instance of John's role in the Apocalypse passing to Dean. I wonder if John would have been Michael's vessel, had he lived?

. . . nah. John would be GOD'S vessel. What? The show's been building up his badassery in the last dozen episodes or so. I'm just helping it along.

(As a completely random side note: you would think, after all my years of Buffy fandom, that I would be able to spell "Apocalypse" correctly on the first try. You would be wrong.)

* Things I grow weary of: Angst. Seriously. Had my fill of piling it on last season, thanks. I know I was supposed to be all heartbroken and shit with Sam and Dean splitting up, but I was just bored. I was watching the timer in the corner of VLC Player, going, "Just a couple more minutes to go . . . maybe something interesting will happen . . . nope. Damn." Enough already. I swear, if this keeps up, I'm just gonna start napping through the last three minutes of each ep. It's not like I'll miss anything good.

* And just to end on a positive note: those x-rays were a brilliant touch. Very cool-looking, and very nice to see visual evidence that Castiel did, in fact, carve the angel shield into their damn ribs. (Also: the cell phone. Hee. Do you think he signed up for a plan with, like, T-Mobile, or did he just swing by a convenience store and pick up a Tracfone? Because I gotta think even an angel knows better than to rely on finding a working pay phone these days.) I must observe that Castiel is shaping up to be even more badass than last season, and his fuck-you speech to Dean gave me joy. I mean, it gives me joy every time someone shuts Dean up in an epic fashion, but that was extra-fantastic.
