The final, polished version for linking to communities.

TITLE: "Old Road" (crossover with the Watchmen movieverse)
AUTHOR: Cathryn ([livejournal.com profile] catslash)
WORD COUNT: Approximately 2600.
RATING: PG-13; genfic
CHARACTERS: John Winchester, the Comedian
SUMMARY: Two of the defining moments of John Winchester's life come to him courtesy of the same man.
NOTES: This started as a commentfic response to a prompt issued by [livejournal.com profile] apiphile, but quickly took on a life of its own. Thanks to her for the initial idea, and to everyone on my flist who offered comments, suggestions, and canon fact-checks.
DISCLAIMER: Supernatural was created by Eric Kripke; Watchmen was created by Alan Moore; and the song I borrowed my title from, "The Times They Are A-Changing," was written by Bob Dylan. I take no credit and make no money from any of these works.

SPOILERS for the Watchmen movie and Supernatural's pilot episode.

So [livejournal.com profile] apiphile is hosting a kissing fic meme, which you should all go post in, and she asked, um - someone else entirely for John Winchester/Comedian.

I poached it and immediately fucked it up, because it failed to be slash. Yeah. that's right. I wrote something that isn't slash. Quick, get your smelling salts!

So here it is, a hastily written Watchmen/Supernatural crossover ficlet in which canons mesh almost too well and also I make no promises about the Comedian's characterization, since I'm not as familiar with WM as I usually like to be before I try my hand at fic. But for commentfic, that's allowed.

John Winchester is surprised as hell to open his eyes and discover that he's not dead. )

So! Way the hell back in July, when I was innocently seeking distraction from the agonizing wait for the Doctor Who finale and blissfully unaware that said agonizing wait would be the best part of the entire episode (oh yeah, I'm still mad), I asked for crossover challenge requests to keep myself occupied.

. . . no, this is not a second round. Not right now. Maybe some other time. I was going to put the results all up in one post, but, uh, I forgot. Until now. I got almost all of them done, excepting the ones that were requests for something I was already trying to write at the time, and also I never want to write a Dogma crossover again, GAIL. ;) But there are still twelve random snippets right here, presented in no particular order. Spoiler warnings or whathaveyou in the cuts, though the spoilers that were new then are kinda old now.

House/Dead and Breakfast - See, this is why Thirteen never talks about herself. The simplest questions are landmines. )

**********

House/Torchwood - Chase looked up, and it was only then that he became aware of the stymied silence. No one was throwing out diagnoses, or even arguing. They were just looking at him. )

**********

Iron Man/Dogma - It was in Illinois, somewhere, doing . . . oh, something about PR, or something. Hell if Tony knows, it was a decade ago and he was drunk the whole time anyway. But he'd snuck out to some little dive strip joint. )

**********

Dexter/Doctor Who - The first clue that this situation isn't quite right is the sedative failing to take effect. )

**********

House/Supernatural, spoilers for House season four finale - Jo's been working in bars since she was sixteen, and of course she spent time in Harvelle's even before that, and she knows all the signs of a man who wants a drink. )

**********

Dogma/Pirates of the Carribean, AU on account of me kind of forgetting about Dead Man's Chest, oops - Jack Sparrow has met God. )

**********

Red Dwarf/Torchwood - Owen couldn't wait until Jack moved on from this overprotective crap. )

**********

Iron Man/Torchwood/Jeeves and Wooster - The Junior Ganymede is, as I have told Mr Wooster and previous employers, a club for gentlemens' personal gentlemen. I have never mentioned, however, that it extends further than one might think, and that said personal gentlemen are not always gentlemen. )

**********

Boondock Saints/Torchwood, part one of a duplicate request - He sent cards and gifts for Christmas and Owen's birthdays. He never heard back, but it didn't surprise him. He highly doubted that Marianne had ever taught Owen about writing thank you notes. )

**********

Boondock Saints/Torchwood part the second, which is actually an AU of the first, just for fun - Smecker is not shocked by this. There isn't a cop in the city who wouldn't buy the Saints a round of beer if given half a chance; after this, they'll probably settle for buying drinks for whoever helped.  )

**********

House/Dogma - But this kid - there was just something about her that drew the eye. Cuddy couldn't even begin to explain what; she just kept glancing back up to watch the girl play. )

**********

Iron Man/Dead and Breakfast - Tony Stark blinked several times, dazed and vaguely aware that he was probably concussed. He'd have to do something about the helmet's design. It was supposed to prevent concussions, not cause them. )

**********

Dogma/Supernatural - Plus it gets Bartleby out of his face for an evening, seriously, the two of them are more closely and irrevocably entwined than any other beings on the planet, but that doesn't mean they don't wanna just find a way to kill each other sometimes. )

I may have to do another round of this, I think, with a new list. I had a lot of fun with it before, and a couple of these might even have enough weight to turn them into proper fics.

[livejournal.com profile] americanleaguer and [livejournal.com profile] offspeed both did "'If I write it down and stare at it, maybe I will be forced to actually finish these fics" posts while I was sleeping, so i figured I'd join the party. I've been so unproductive ficwise the last couple of weeks.

Cut because I decided to throw in snippets for fun. In which I write a lot of damn crossovers, and Torchwood and Supernatural feature heavily. And are NOT crossed over. )

Way too many fics going on there. It beats the zero I had before, though, and I still heart SPN for being the fandom that jumpstarted my fic muse after like two years of silence. And Torchwood for keeping it going. Also, what's up with me being the freakin' crossover queen over here?

Also, I'm probably gonna pull together all my non-recent-past 'verse drabbles to post to communities at some point today, so if you see a "new" fic post from me, don't get excited, because there's nothing new in it. Well, unless you missed my drabble spamming phase.

Okay, so! I seem to recall promising unfinished would-be epic Supernatural fic. I'm posting it now because I'm officially going to get Jossed Kripked tomorrow, and I've got enough of it so that I at least want to show it off a little to the flist.

In keeping with the accidental theme of my recent fannish life, it is a crossover of sorts. A while back - late last year, I think - I read a cute little fic that I've lost the link to that was a Supernatural-flavored spoof of Wizard of Oz, with Jeffrey Dean Morgan in the Dorothy role. I found the fic amusing, and then the premise kind of started to eat my brain. There are, I have found, very few fics involving actors transported into the fictional world in the SPN fandom (which, honestly, surprises me, because: SPN fandom), and of course the ones I did find that took the idea more seriously were about Jensen and/or Jared.

So one night I started writing down bits of a 'verse wherein Jeff finds himself in the SPN world, and he's been brought there for a reason. I was just fooling around trying to get it out of my head, and somehow ended up with over nine pages of fragments. GENERAL SPOILERS through 3x08. )

You know one thing that I really have fun with in regards to Supernatural? It crosses over with almost anything. Seriously. As long as the other work in question is non-fantastical (or has rules that are similar to SPN's; crossovers with Buffy, for example, make my head ache because the shows' demons and vamps are way too different to mesh) and the timeline works out. And, fuck it, even if it doesn't, you can always throw in a convenient transdimensional vortex or whatever.

Some of the crossovers I've come up with have worked, to the point where there is unfinished fic littering my harddrive, and some of them are too cracky or convoluted to do anything but amuse me tremendously. Plus, you know, some of them I've forgotten. But I shall now share with you the ones I can remember. If I have fic for it, I'll throw in a snippet; if I don't, I'll write a snippet! Then at the bottom, there will be a bonus, non-SPN, totally cracktastic opening-sentence-snippet that probably isn't as funny as I think it is, but I need to get it out of my brain!

SPN/Dead and Breakfast )

SPN/Dexter )

SPN/Grey's Anatomy )

SPN/RPF )

SPN/Xena-Hercuverse )

SPN/Torchwood (spoilers from 'Reset' on) )

Bonus random crossover of crack! )

Title: "Three Things John Winchester Never Did With His Sons"
Author: Cathryn
Rating: PG
Characters: John, Dean, Sam - gen fic
Words: 3686
Warnings: AU, character death.
Note: This is my first Supernatural fic. I mention this not because I think it sucks (because if I thought that, I wouldn't be inflicting it upon the internet), but because I'm still getting a handle on things, so constructive criticism is extra special welcome.
Disclaimer: Kripke created Supernatural. I'm just having some non-profit fun.
Spoilers: "Dead Man's Blood," "In My Time of Dying."
Summary: Three things that never happened to the Winchesters.

John Winchester didn't raise stupid children )
So I've spent much of my winter break watching TV shows and reading fanfic. One of the major offenders has been Supernatural, and it is ridiculous not only how much fanfic there is, but how much of it is good. This fandom may be utterly fucking bugshit crazy, but it has the highest ratio of quality to crap in any large fandom I've ever seen. As a result, I've amassed so many Supernatural fics in my LJ memories that they comprise over half of the total entries in the "fic" section. Winter break is now winding down, so I thought I'd celebrate by passing along my finds. I'm sure some of them will be familiar to those of you who have been in the fandom for a while, but hopefully there's some new stuff in there, too. This doesn't come even close to representing everything I enjoyed, but it's a good sampling.

Uh, and one other thing: it's not all slash. Yeah, I know! Nobody's more surprised, believe me. So I've pulled it all together in categories, because not everything here is everyone's cup of tea, and I've added little snips from each fic. Which I tried to keep work safe when it was relevant, and believe me that was not always easy.

Genfic first, because I think I've still got at least one non-slasher on my flist. )

Wincest. Because that's really all the show has to give to us slashers. )

RPS. Because Jeffrey Dean Morgan does not have to be in character to be hot. )

And even a lone het PWP. WHAT IS THIS FANDOM DOING TO ME )

The end. Oh, man. I've never actually looked that closely at my memoried fic before. I think I have issues.
